Deadline: 2018-08-31
Location: London, UK
Type: Postdoc
We are pleased to announce a call for applications for a post-doctoral Research Associate position in the lab of Professor Jonathan Chubb in the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/lmcb/research-group/jonathan-chubb-research-group).
The lab has developed powerful technologies to directly image transcription in living cells (Curr Biol 24:205-11, PNAS 109:7350-5, Curr Biol 16:1018-25, eLife e13051, Curr Biol 27:1811-17). The group uses a combination of live cell imaging, transcriptome analysis, mathematical modeling and molecular genetics to understand the mechanistic basis of gene expression dynamics, how the dynamics are responsive to signals, transcription factor binding, developmental and chromatin context and the implications of pulsatile gene expression on the generation of diversity between cells in developmental and clinical contexts.
The successful candidate will be studying the regulation of transcription underlying cell division making during development. This will involve managing the running of several independent research projects, carrying out the culture of a variety of different cell types, generating, validating and maintaining overexpression and targeted insertion cell lines, as well as carrying out time-lapse microscopy experiments and image analysis.
Work will be carried out at the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology http://www.ucl.ac.uk/LMCB/. The LMCB is in the main UCL campus, in the heart of central London.
The position is available to start from 1st November 2018 until 31st October 2021 initially.
Key Requirements
Candidates are expected to be exceptional, highly motivated scientists who have a strong track record of research in a relevant area of the life sciences. We will also consider applicants with a PhD in physics or engineering with a strong interest in biology.
The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7 (from £34,635 to £41,864 inclusive). If the PhD has not yet been awarded, the appointment will be made at Research Assistant Grade 6B at £30,967 – £31,967 per annum inclusive, with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
