The newly established Advanced Light Imaging and Spectroscopy Facility (ALIS) at Duke University (http://alis.duke.edu) is accepting applications for the Manager position. The facility operates and develops cutting-edge instrumentation, which currently includes a lattice light-sheet microscope, a deep-tissue serial sectioning microscope, and a multimodal pump-probe microscope. The responsibilities of the Manager includes but is not limited to instrument operation, scheduling, maintenance, user training, and advising users on image and data analyses tasks. Furthermore, the manager works with the facility director and research groups to develop new and adapt existing instruments to advance their capabilities.
The successful candidate needs to have a masters or doctoral degree in an optics-related field (such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering). Experience in optical microscopy is required, as is a working knowledge in image data acquisition. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: biological sample handling, image analysis, computer programming, femtosecond lasers, or nonlinear optics. We require the candidate to have strong communication and analytical skills, to be self-motivated, and be able to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary environment. Interested applicants should provide a curriculum vitae, list of publications, description of research interests, and names of three references to the facility director (Prof. Martin Fischer, alis(a)duke.edu).
