SUMMARY:International Training Courses for Core Facility Staff
DESCRIPTION:One of the key activities of the Global BioImaging project is to organise advanced training courses for Core Facility Staff on the subjects of facility management and image data tools. The goal is to develop a new educational program for facility staff while stimulating networking and international cooperation. \nThe two first international courses of the Global BioImaging project took place at the EMBL in Heidelberg (Germany) in November 2016. Building on their success\, two more are now planned to take place back-to-back with the “Exchange of Experience III” workshop in Sydney\, Australia:\n\n\n“Management and operation of imaging core facilities” – Sept 17-19th\, 2018\n“Challenges in image data management and analysis” – Sept 19-21th\, 2018\n\nThe course in “Management and operation of imaging core facilities” provides an educational program for facility staff in the field of facility management and administration. It entails a session on soft skills training\, one on best practices for building imaging facilities in the fields of biological and biomedical imaging as well as site visits to imaging centres.\n\nThe course on “Challenges in image data management and analysis” presents the capabilities and technologies currently available to imaging facility staff in the field of image data management and analysis. Awareness will be raised on the current challenges in the field and the course participants will be provided with a new set of tools (and references) that can be used tackle such challenges and improve their own facility’s working life.\n\nMore detailed programs can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.\n\nThe Global BioImaging project provides the possibility to selected course applicants to receive travel support to attend the courses. We strongly recommend to interested facility staff not to loose this opportunity and apply to these courses within Friday\, June 15th\, 2018 via the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.de/r/TDDDQX9\n\nIn addition to these opportunities\, GBI has worked together with Japan’s ABiS to co-organise an additional training event on image data analysis pipelines\, which is also currently open for registration:\n\n\nGBI-ABiS international training course for Bioimage Analysis – Oct 31-Nov 1st\, 2018\, Okinawa\, Japan.\n\nThis course will focus on computational methods for analysing cellular images and extracting quantitative data from them. Its aim is to familiarise the participants with computational image analysis methodologies\, and to provide hands-on training in running quantitative analysis pipelines. Young investigators\, such as PhD students and postdoc\, as well as assistant professors and imaging facilities technical staff are encouraged to apply. A limited number of travel grants provided by ABiS will be awarded to applicants selected on the basis of their qualifications and fitness to the purpose of the course.\n\nFor more information and to apply to the course\, please visit the dedicated ABiS webpage!\n
