SUMMARY:BIOPHOTONICS COURSE
DESCRIPTION: Aim\n\nIt is the goal of the course to teach the students general principles of\nfluorescence and light microscopy as well as teach principles behind\nadvanced fluorescence and imaging techniques as well as a short\nintroduction to image processing. There will be practical demonstrations\nand hands on exercises on all topics. The course is a five day\nintensive course taking place within one week.\nIn relation to the competence profile of the degree it is the explicit focus of the course to: \n\nGive the competence to Identify the “method of choice” for analysis of a given biological sample\nGive skills to perform image analysis using advanced microscopy instrumentation\nGive knowledge and understanding of the strengths and limitations of modern techniques in microscopy\n\n\n Statement of aims\nThe learning objective of the course is that the student demonstrates the ability to: \n\nUnderstand the basics of microscopy and optical bioimaging.\nDiscuss strengths and limitations of modern techniques in microscopy.\nIdentify the “method of choice” for analysis of a given biological sample\nPerform image analysis using advanced microscopy instrumentation\nPresent scientific results in an oral seminar given in English\nEvaluate scientific results in the original research literature\n\n\n Content\n\nThe following main topics are contained in the course:\n\n\nWide field microscopy\nLaser scanning single-photon confocal microscopy\nTwo-photon microscopy\nSpinning disk confocal microscopy\nFluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS)\nRaster Image Correlation Spectroscopy (RICS)\nFluorescent Lifetime Imaging microscopy (FLIM)\nkICS/PALM (k‐Space Image Correlation Spectroscopy/ photoactivated localization microscopy)\nCoherent anti Raman scattering microscopy (CARS)\nStimulation emission depletion microscopy (STED)\nIntroduction to image analyses using FIJI and Huygens\n\n\n\n
