SUMMARY:Basic course resin embedding and ultrathin sectioning\, Utrecht
DESCRIPTION:The 3 day workshop organized in collaboration with Leica Microsystems is meant for people that do not have experience with standard preparation techniques for transmission electron microscopy. This workshop is primarily practical in nature\, although some topics will be dealt with in lectures. The entire procedure from (live) specimen till stained ultrathin resin section will be covered from start to finish. If you participate most of the time will be spent in the lab working with standard specimens like cultured cells or tissues. Besides embedding in a resin and managing the ultra-microtome\, the preparation of tools and other necessities will be covered.\nWe provide an excellent learning environment. When manual skills like ultrathin sectioning of resin blocks are being trained the participants will have their own ultra-microtome (often equipped with a camera) to practice on. The number of participants is limited to 12 people. We will provide you with a practical manual covering the topics of the course.\nThe preliminary program and a more elaborate list of topics that are addressed in this course can be found here. \nAvailable equipment: 2 x Reichert Ultracut E\, 3x Leica Ultracut S\, 2x Leica Ultracut T\, 1x Leica UC6/FC6 \,1 x Leica UC6\, 2x Leica UC7. Participants are accepted on a “first-come\, first-served” basis therefore we recommend that you contact us at your earliest convenience. \nAfter the registration deadline on December 20th 2018 you will receive an invoice and additional information about hotels etc. Cancellation is possible till December 20th 2018\, thereafter the course fee has to be paid in full.
