Type: PhD student

A PhD position is available in the field of experimental membrane biophysics, with focus on the following research topics: plasma membrane repair, membrane curvature, protein-lipid interactions, high-resolution microscopy, data analysis/modelling and design of novel model membrane experiments.

We are seeking excellent applicants with an educational background in physics and a strong potential to perform high-quality experimental research at the interface between physics and cell biology.

The PhD position is affiliated with the research group of Associate Professor Adam Cohen Simonsen at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy (FKF) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense. The research group is focused on fundamental aspects of biomembrane structure and dynamics using a combination of model systems, advanced imaging and theory. It is part of the section for Soft Matter and Biological Physics at FKF, SDU.

The successful PhD candidate will work on the project entitled: ‘Importance of curvature at membrane edges in plasma membrane repair’ funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The project is a close collaboration with the Danish Cancer Society Research Centre (Copenhagen, Denmark) where the PhD candidate will also perform part of the work.

The PhD position is for a term of three years. Interested candidates are requested to motivate their interest in the position and to include in their application at least two letters of recommendation. Documentation of previous work within experimental physics is also appreciated. Application deadline: 15 March 2018.
